This module produces repeatable sequences of random voltages. You can use it for controlled and repeatable randomness, using different seed values, or to produce looping sequences of random values that can change at specific times.

It has two channels that share the same range controls, glide time, and distribution. But each channel has a separate random generator that can be triggered, seeded, and reset independently.

The random values will be chosen between the range specified by the Min and Max knobs. If Min exceeds Max, the values will still be chosen between the two edges, so you don’t need to worry about that.

The switch next to the knobs allows you to set the distribution type, between uniform (U) and gaussian (G).

You can double click on the seed text label to enter a specific seed value. You can also just press the S (seed) button to generate a new seed at random, or send a trigger to the input next to this button.

You can trigger the module manually with the T button, or by sending a trigger to its input. You can also reset the sequence with the R button, or with a trigger sent to the reset input. When the sequence is reset it will start over from the beginning (as long as the seed hasn’t changed).

The toggle near the S buttons allows you to link the buttons, so that pushing the ones on the left side will also activate the one on the right side (but not the other way around, and the right side ones can still be used independently).

The toggle between the R Ins and T Ins allows you to pass the signals for seed, reset and trigger from the left side to the right one, in which case they will substitute the inputs connected on the right side.

You can use this module in combination with a clock divider to generate looping sequences of random values. For example, connect the signal triggering the module to a clock divider and set the value to 8. You can then use the output of the divider to trigger the reset, so that every 8 notes the sequence will start again. You can take it further by taking the clock divided signal, and feeding again into another clock divider. Set this divider to 4, and send the output to the seed input. This will result in a sequence of 8 notes that repeat 4 times and then changes to a new sequence. Vary the settings of the clock divider to get different sequence lengths and repeats.

You can also produce repeating sequences of continuous voltages by setting a higher glide value. This can be used to modulate parameters in random ways, but with repetition.

The switch next to the glide knob allows you to multiply the glide time by 1, 10, and 100, for cases where you want really slow transitions. But keep in mind that you will want to adjust the triggering rate to account for the long glides. You can also use the end of glide output (EoG) to trigger events when the glide reaches its destination. This can also be used to retrigger the module itself, so that you get a new gliding note as soon as the first one finishes, which produces constantly changing continuous CV signals very useful for modulating different parameters of other modules.
