It throws dice to generate random numbers. Some people might be familiar with the style and know the distribution of results will be Gaussian. (If you aren't, please take a look some documents https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dice_notation ). The process can be done manually or automatically.

You can play those tabletop games without real dice! ;)

If you use it as a signal generator, please be careful of the output voltage. Generated voltages can easily be destructively high value.

Also to use as a kind of noise generator, please try to set Auto Casting switch turned on and set Auto Casting Rate (+Multiplier) maximum.

To be useful as a CV generator, some additions are in. The module allows to handle decimal fractions (even weird as dice). The module has a polarity switch to compensate the center value of result to 0 or just to flip the sign. Also a glide processor is internalized for smooth output.

Controls and I/O

Knobs

  • Number of Dice: Sets the number of dice to roll.
  • Number of Face: Sets the number of face of all dice.
  • Auto Casting Rate: Sets internal tempo for auto casting. The value is set and represented by bpm.
  • Auto Casting Rate Multiplier: It multiplies internal bpm value. Auto casting runs on multiplied bpm tempo.
  • Glide Time: Adjusts glide time for internal glide processor. To switch the glide processor off, simply set the glide time 0 ms (hard left).
  • Output Volume: Adjusts voltage level of output value. It affects all of output jack.

Button

  • Cast Dice: When the button pushed, it refreshes output value.

Editable Label

  • Number of Dice: Sets the number of dice to roll.
  • Number of Face: Sets the number of face of all dice.

Non-Editable Label

  • Result: Shows generated value. The value shown here is just as generated and Output Volume is not applied.

Switches

  • Allow Decimal Fraction: When the switch is turned off, values for Number of Dice, Number of Face, Number of Dice CV input and Number of Face CV input are truncated and the Result values fit into integers. With the switch on, all values can accept decimal fractions. Voltage values output from Output /10 and Output /100 jacks can be decimal fractions even the switch is turned off.
  • Auto Casting: While the switch is turned on, the module executes "Cast Dice" automatically at a tempo set by Auto Casting Rate knob.
  • Polarity: Selects polarity for output values. Positive (+) is default. Generated voltage value is straightly outputted as generated. In Negative (-) mode, output is inverted version of generated voltage value. In Bipolar (±) mode, the center value is subtracted from generated voltage value and the result is outputted and the result can be both positive and negative value. Center value is calculated from combination of Number of Dice and Number of Face at every time the Cast Dice is executed. If the Allow decimal fraction switch is off, the center value cannot be actual "center" in many case because of truncation process and the distribution of result will not be symmetric in positive and negative range.
  • Glide Mode: Sets mode for internal glide processor. Internal glide processor has two modes. "Lin." means "linear" and the amount of time to reach target pitch will be varied with the distance between current and next pitch. "Con." means "constant". Regardless of the distance between current and next pitch, the amount of time to reach target pitch will be the same in constant mode.
  • Limit Output Voltage ±10v: With the switch on, output signal is limited to the range between -10 to +10v.

Inputs

  • Number of Dice CV input: Adds injected CV value to the Number of Dice knob value.
  • Number of Face CV input: Adds injected CV value to the Number of Face knob value.
  • Cast Trigger input: A trigger/gate CV input to execute the Cast Dice. It is triggered when the signal crossed 0v to any positive voltages.

Outputs

  • Output: Emits the Result as a CV signal.
  • Output /10: Emits the Result as a CV signal. Voltage value is 1\/10 of the Result.
  • Output /100: Emits the Result as a CV signal. Voltage value is 1\/100 of the Result.
