The Comparator is a useful utility module that compares the voltages of two input signals, and outputs a HIGH output when the first signal is higher than the second, or LOW if vice-versa.
The DMT Comparator module adds additional features, such as the ability to use a fixed voltage for either signal using a knob value, and the ability to introduce a CV/Knob controlled OFFSET as well as a GAP feature, explained below.
Instructions
Inputs
INPUT (A & B) - Connect two input signal to compare. Each input has an Attenuverter to control the input before processing.
OFFSET - Adds a Fixed voltage to Input B before processing. If nothing is connected to Input B, then Input A will be compared against the OFFSET value only.
GAP - At 0v the thresholds that switch the OUTPUT voltages HIGH or LOW are indentical. Otherwise the voltages that 'switch' the output from LOW to HIGH drift apart. For example, with a positive value, it takes a higher INPUT voltage to swtich the output to HIGH, whilst simultaneously requiring a lower INPUT voltage to switch to LOW. This is great for time-offsetting the OUTPUT voltages.
Outputs
A>B OUTPUT - Outputs a HIGH signal if Input A is higher than the threshold (Input B + Offset + Gap)
A<B OUTPUT - The inverse of the A>B OUTPUT.
Hints & Tips
Comparators are really useful to create Gate Signals from, and connecting two different input signals and playing with the GAP and OFFSET values can result in the generation of interesting rhythms and patterns.
