Key Switches
A little MIDI utility that allows the assignment of one or more octaves of a MIDI note input to a programmable voltage bank. It was designed especially for controlling the Scene Select switches in Equilibrum Pyramid and Juggler, but there may be other uses as well.
How it works
- The twelve silver knobs let you dial in a CV value for each pitch class.
- The Limit Lo and Limit Hi controls set the octave(s) that will be transformed.
- The MIDI Out is in fact a special thru port that will transmit only those events that have not been transformed (i.e. it omits note on events inside the selected octave range).
The Menu
The settings that are editable here relate to two possible translation functions for the CV output.
- Polarity decides if the voltage range will be 0-5 V or rather -5 to 5 V.
- Quantization allows you to define encodings that will be useful when patching CV to inputs that serve as switches in certain other modules.
At the moment two encodings are supported:
- Setting the Quantization to 8 in conjunction with 'Polarity = unipolar' allows keyboard control over the Scene Select switches in Equilibrum Pyramid and Juggler.
- Setting the Quantization to 12 in conjuction with 'Polarity = bipolar' makes it possible to exactly pitch-sequence the Transposition Ratio of the 2nd pitch-shifter in Garden Reverb. One CV unit will translate to one semitone in this case.
