An easy to use module that detects MIDI note on / note off messages for a single specific note and outputs gate and velocity signals when that note is received via its MIDI IN socket.
A typical application would be to trigger a particular sound when let's say the note G2 is sent from your MIDI keyboard or DAW. To do this patch Voltage Modular's MIDI FROM HOST socket to MIDI IN, click on the LEARN button and send a G2 note from your keyboard or DAW. Then any subsequent G2 notes will output the gate and associated velocity from GATE OUT and VELOCITY OUT.
Optionally a second MIDI signal fed to the TEACH IN socket can be used to dynamically set which note to detect.
A couple of built-in VCAs allow you to use the velocity information to control the level of a mono or stereo source if required.
The most recent version also tracks polyphonic pressure (AKA poly aftertouch) messages for the trapped note and outputs the amount of pressure to POLY AT OUT.
The small knob to the right of the POLY AT OUT socket allows you to adjust the amount of smoothing applied to the aftertouch signal. The default 12 o'clock setting should be fine but if you have a high-quality controller you may want to turn this slightly CCW to speed up the response. When fully CCW no smoothing is applied. Turning the knob CW from 12 o'clock introduces more and more smoothing (and a delayed release) and this may sometimes be useful for creative purposes.
