NF678 Compressor-Limiter

• NF678 Compressor-Limiter is a module based on Fairchild Model 670.
• NF678 Compressor-Limiter is sold individually and as part of PROCESSOR Bundle .
• The essence of this device is very fast attack and slow release times.
• It can process two stereo channels either as a left/right stereo pair (linked), or as lateral and vertical (unlinked) components.
• Switches select L-R or M-S operation , and the VU meter mode, which can display gain reduction, input and output level.
• There’s also a single switch offering six time-constant ‘presets’, each switch position selects a different pairing of attack and release times. All positions offer extremely fast attack values, between 0.2 and 0.8 milliseconds.
• This compressor generally combines fairly fast attack times with a fairly long release.
• But even though it might not be the perfect solution for contemporary mix and drum buses, it’s capable of doing a wonderful job on other mix groups such as a horn, keyboard or vocal bus.
• An inherent feature of this compression principle is the soft knee of the compression curve.
• Gain reduction starts with a very low ratio, between 1:1 and 2:1 for smaller peaks, and gradually increases to a ratio of up to 20:1 on loud input signals depending also on RMS trim screw setting.
• The curve can be adjusted to some degree by Bias and Cap. trim screws, It allows for a broad range from a very smooth transition between compression and harder limiting, to a more pronounced, harder knee.
