Mix up the triggers/gates feeding rhythms, swap envelopes around, send melodies to varying destinations, and, with nimble reliability, make signals swap destinations.
As you turn the PERMUTE dial, the four inputs are connected to various permutations of the four output destinations. Since it’s nonrandom, you can get reliable mix-arounds at each numbered permutation (24 total) (and using multiple units in parallel from the same modulation source means they do the same thing, so parallel signals like pitch/gate/etc can keep their groupings when you want that). Additionally, you can rotate the destinations, shifting them +/- three jacks from their original destinations (actually, +/-4 is available, returning to the original destinations when fully clockwise or counter-clockwise, making performance easier). You needn’t use all of the inputs or outputs - four inputs to one output makes is great for switching rhythm sources or one input to four outputs is useful for alternative voicings.
Use the device for interesting drum fills, create tonal variations with different effects chains, flip between different sequences or cv modulation sources rapidly, or just experiment with undirected connection swapping...
