sys.14 | nova is a compact envelope generator with two envelope modes: AD and AR. The attack time can be set independently, while the decay/release time determines how quickly the envelope returns to zero.

In AD mode, each trigger generates a complete attack-decay envelope. In AR mode, the envelope rises during the attack and remains high for as long as the gate is held, then smoothly returns to zero when the gate is released.

The accent input has priority over the regular gate input. When an accent is received, it forces the envelope to trigger and increases its maximum output level. When gate and accent are received together, the envelope therefore responds as an accented envelope. The accented output can reach up to 10 V, depending on the accent amount.

Simple, fast and highly useful for shaping dynamics, filters and VCA levels.

The controls and their functions: from top to bottom:

• Rise-slider: Sets the attack time of the envelope. Value 0 to 3.000 ms.
• Fall-slider: Sets the decay time in AD mode and the release time in AR mode. Values 0 to 3.000 ms.
• Mode: Selects between AD (Attack–Decay) and AR (Attack–Release).
• Gate-jack: Triggers the envelope. In AD mode, this generates a complete envelope cycle. In AR mode, the envelope remains high while the gate is held. In AD and AR mode gates are accepted as inputs. In AD mode triggers are also accepted.
• Accent amount: Sets the amount of additional envelope level generated by an accent. At 0% the output of accentend envelopes is 5 volts, at 100% it's 10 volts.
• Accent-jack: Triggers an accented envelope. Accent takes priority when received together with a gate and raises the maximum envelope level.
• Out: Outputs the envelope at 0–5 V, or up to 10 V when accented.
