sys.14 | tema is a flexible sync divider for creating rhythmic trigger patterns from the Voltage Modular I/O Panel sync signal. tema divides the 96 PPQN clock into musical divisions, with support for whole, dotted, and triplet timing. Probability determines whether each generated trigger is sent to Output A or Output B, while Swing delays every second step to add a more human, syncopated feel. A dedicated Reset input restarts the divider, ensuring predictable synchronization with your sequence or patch.
Controls and their functions from top to bottom:
- Division: Selects the basic clock division, from 1/32 through 8/1.
- Mode: Selects the rhythmic interpretation of the selected division: Whole (standard division), Dotted (dotted timing), Triplet (triplet timing).
- Probability: Sets the probability that a generated trigger is sent to Output A. If the probability test fails, the trigger is instead sent to Output B. At 100%, all triggers are sent to A; at 0%, all triggers are sent to B.
- Swing: Delays every second generated step, creating a variable swing feel. At 0%, the timing is straight; increasing the amount progressively delays alternating steps.
- Sync In: Accepts the 96 PPQN sync signal from the Voltage Modular I/O Panel.
- Reset In: Resets the divider's internal clock position. The next sync pulse becomes the starting point of the division.
- Output A / Output B: Generate 5 V triggers according to the Probability setting. Each trigger has a fixed 5 ms duration. LEDs indicate activity on their respective outputs.
sys.14 | tema is particularly useful for turning a master clock into evolving rhythmic patterns, complementary trigger streams, and probability-based sequences while remaining firmly locked to the master tempo.
