sys.6 | random is a tempo synced sample & hold module that outputs random voltages as soon as the sample & hold source is above the threshold level. The sample & hold voltages can be set from the traditional square shapes to triangle shapes. The small curve knob converts the triangles from logarithmic to exponential curves. The mode switch let's you switch from sample & hold to gates & triggers. The sample & hold source is used to generate triggers. When you use the threshold the module will generate random triggers. Increasing the level of the type knob will set the trigger length from 1% (trigger) to 100% (gate).
The controls and their functions: from top to bottom:
-
Slider R: Sets the rate of the sample & hold source. The available rates are: 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1/1, 2/1, 4/1, 8/1, 16/1. (1) Available also in triplets and dotted.
-
Slider T: Sets the threshold. Above the threshold the sample & hold source is used. When voltages are passed thru, the slider will turn on.
-
Mode switch: switches between sample & hold and gates & triggers.
-
Type: The type knob will set the sample & hold from square to triangle shapes. In gate & trigger mode, it sets the trigger/gate length.
-
Small curve knob: In sample & hold mode, and type is set > 0%, the triangle shape is converted from logaritmic to lineair to exponential. (2)
-
Reset: Resets the sample & hold source.
-
Out: Outputs the sample & hold or triggers & Gates.
-
The out-led has 3 states. If the outgoing signal is negative, the led blinks blue, when positive they blink green.
(1) If you would like to use different divisions, use a sync divider connected to the reset jack. (2) In trigger & gates mode, this knob has no effect on the output signal.
