The VCA/Blend module is a cross-fader that mixes two cv soures, such as envelopes or lfo's, to modulate the volume/amplitude of the incoming audio or cv source. Volume modulation is applied by two cv sources, which are colored blue and orange. The cv's are mixed/cross-faded after they can be scaled by the level knobs, to increase the difference between them, thus in volume modulation.

This module is intended to use different sources to modulate amplitude, such as using two envelopes at the same time that are rhythmically triggered, in other words: applying accents on steps. The colors of VCA/Blend are the same as ENV/Peaks and SEQ/Steps. The conceptual idea is to use these three modules together along the Octagon Sequencer of Cherry Audio. VCA/Blend can also be used with all other sources available in Voltage Modular.

The controls and their functions: from top to bottom:

  • Blue knob: This is the mix knob that mixes/blends the orange and blue cv channel to modulate the volume level of the input. At 0% only the orange CV is passed through, at 100% only the blue cv channel. In the middle 50% of orange is passed through and 50% of blue.
  • Attenuator knob: This knob sets the intensity of the cv mix modulation for the blend/mix knob.
  • Orange and Blue led: The leds indicate if cv orange or cv blue is passed through for volume modulation.
  • Mix: Is the input for modulating the blue mix knob.
  • Level: The level knobs scale the incoming cv signals from 0% to 100%. If, for instance, blue is the accent channel, it's nice to set the level to 100% and the orange cv, the "normal envelope", to 50%.
  • CV orange and CV blue: The inputs for the modulation that are cross-faded by the big blue blend knob.
  • In: Is the input for the audio channel to be modulated.
  • Out: Is the output of the input channel after modulation.
