Want to ensure consistency with your voicing assignments when using MIDI?
As it is currently, the poly channel assignments coming from your DAW or MIDI controller seem to be arbitrary. When you play a note, it might be assigned to the first channel, or the third, or seventh. Who knows.
If you're feeding a polyphonic instrument (say, the Poly Synthesizer Expander Module), this normally isn't a big issue.
However, if you're building a patch where voicing order is important (say you were going to split the poly signal into mono and send it to different places), this is the module for you!
It has two modes of operation: Floor and Round Robin.
In Floor mode, voice assignments will go to the lowest available channel.
In Round Robin mode, voice assignments will cycle upward until it reaches the channel limit and resets to the beginning.
For a quick demo of the problem this module is looking to address, and what it looks like in action, take a look at this YouTube video.
Assorted Notes
- Pitch and Velocity values don't get zeroed out when the gate is released
- This module is designed for use when ingesting MIDI. If you aggregate a collection of mono signals via a mono to poly module, the order should be maintained (I'd say it's a bug if it wasn't).
