DMT Bernoulli

A probability gate - this module takes signal inputs and a clock input (Trigger/Gate) and decides at random (with an adjustable probability) how to route the signals from Inputs to Outputs. The perfect module for adding a little bit of randomness to your sequences!

This module improves on other Bernoulli Gate designs by allowing multiple inputs and outputs, and automatically configures to what is plugged in. This gives us the flexibility to have the following modes of operation:

  • 1 IN - 1 OUT
  • 1 IN - 2 OUT
  • 2 IN - 2 OUT
  • 2 IN - 1 OUT

Simple Patch Example

A simple patch to begin with - plug a square-wave LFO into both Input A and the Clock Input of the Module. When the clock signal goes high, it triggers an internal 'coin toss' to decide whether to send the signal to output A or output B. In this case output A is sent to the Trigger In signal of a 909 kick, for example, whilst output B is sent to the Accent In signal of the same module. By setting the probability knob to 75%, we have a 3 in 4 chance of sending the signal to the Trigger input, and the remaining 1 in 4 chance of triggering the accent instead - varying the sound occasionally and keeping things sounding interesting!

Inputs:

A,B - signals to be routed

CLOCK - Triggered by an incoming signal greater than 2.5v.

PROBABILITY - Determines Probability of choosing 'B' (Fully left - 100% A and 0% B, Fully right - 0% A and 100% B). The additional CV input takes a 0-5v signal, 0 being 'fully left', 5v 'fully right'.

Outputs:

A,B - output signals
