A non-keyboard approach to sampling, this device connects triggers to playback speeds at predefined musical intervals with a result that might remind you of needle dropping while riding the pitch fader, except way easier. It sounds rough around the edges, experimental, and unnatural, and to match, even the sample playback process is staggeringly manual. Inspired by having to set the RPM on a turntable, three controls are used to manually set bit depth, sample rate, and “reading frame” for either proper results or the noise of misinterpretation, all quickly switchable for exploration. With a column of trigger inputs, it’s ready for drum-style sequencing, generative melodies, and experimental mayhem.
Master tune (coarse & fine), a hidden attack knob, a CV controlled brake, and stereo outputs make it ready for acting like an instrument, a drum, a noise generator, and a remix tool alike. Don’t use this for seamless simulation sampling, but go for it if you want something unapologetic about what it does.
