Simple Midi Note counter use purely for diagnostics.

Counter per Midi Channel, LED will flash if an "All Notes Off" is received for that channel.
Checks In Notes On and checks off any corresponding Note Off messages.
It can ignore "All Notes Off" midi messages.
You can also count Zero velocity Note On messages as either Note On or Note Off. e.g. I have seen many midi files that use Note On Velocity 0 to turn off notes, this could cause issues with other "external to VM" software based programs as it's relying on those honouring velocity data (it may not be built to).
