Voltage-Controlled Envelope

A voltage controlled envelope generator with some interesting features. The envelope includes a Delay and an optional timed Sustain stage, as well as the Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain and Release stages; the Hold Level can be set (within the limitation that it must be the same or more than the Sustain Level) and all of these can be controlled using CV inputs. There are two general CV inputs (typically used for Keyboard Following changes to times, and Velocity changes to pretty much everything) as well as individual CV inputs for each control and a Sustain Gate input.

The CVs can be set to be 1ms/V (legacy mode), 10ms/V, 100ms/V, 1sec/V as well as x100 multipliers for individual CVs in and support /32 setting for external sync'd timings (clock, host or CV) and /16 for each of the sync'd times in the envelope for much faster sync'd envelopes. There is additional manual control of the minimum times (0-10ms) for Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain and Release stages (subject to the 2ms minimum that can be set on the settings page) allowing more flexibility in setting up complex voltage-controlled scenarios whilst avoiding any pops as a result of 0ms attacks, especially when retriggering or used in looping cycles controlling audio.

The envelope offers variable exponential/logarithmic/linear curves for the attack, decay and release stages, including backwards compatibility for the "fast attack" mode in the previous release and control over how "hard" the retrigger behaviour is when it occurs during an envelope. There are gate outputs from each stage of the envelope, host sync (to the DAW or a gate input bpm rate) and looping that can include the Delay stage, the Attack/Hold/Decay stages, or (with timed Sustain) the whole Delay, Attack, Hold, Decay, Sustain, Release cycle. Together with a Manual Trigger button, a re-trigger (Attack stage) input and latching of the gate, this can be used for complex envelope and other rhythmic purposes. The "inverted" output supports various inverted and offset modes to allow the modules to emulate various other envelopes.

The envelope times can be limited to 12 seconds (effectively a legacy mode as this was hard limited in previous versions) or can be unlimited when driven by CVs and/or the BPM multipliers, with times possible of minutes or even hours - which can be great for ambient and generative music.

The module fully supports setting the mid-point of the log-scale time controls (from the "options" cog-wheel button) and to set the minimum attack and delay/release times to either 0ms or 2ms, and now includes default (but switchable) inputs from the IO Panel for simplified patching.

Also sold as part of Andrew Macaulay's Envelope and LFO Collection and included in Andrew Macaulay's Ultimate Bundle.

Exceptional beyond words

Andrew's modules are elegant, powerful, and rival anything out there on the market whether it's software or hardware. This envelope is stellar and has an array of functions that can be applied anywhere along the realm of instrument and effect designs. Andrew also has an incredible manual that supports all of his incredible modules. We are more privileged than we'll ever know. While we're here, we might as well create something truly personal and engaging.

ridiculously high quality Envelope

it's got everything you need and it's fast as heck.

highest quality output with the most consistent almost surgical execution but also you can make as musical as you would like.
