Holy-grit, batman! This beast screeches perfectly
The Cherry Audio PS-20 is - was - probably my favourite soft synth due to its ability to swing from smooth ethereal soundscapes to quirky, snarling, gritty, unpredictable chaos with the twist of a knob.
I've only been playing with Dreamsynth for an hour or so, and I think I've found my new favourite (sorry PS-20).
Dreamsynth can crank out the amazing, natural sounding analogue noise of handcrafted, home-built synths. All the crunch is there by the bucket load. It's just... beautiful in its ability to be ugly. And the control you have over the sounds... un-freaking-beleivable.
But the Dreamsynth has a soft side too. From galaxy-scanning chords with reverb that echo forever, to ambient gods in the clouds calling upon angles. Perfect for trance, techno and, my favorite, dark horrorscapes and game background music.
This is a very flexible synth. It delivers all that I love about retro (virtual) gear, but with such a depth of functionality and flexibility that I can see I'll be using this beast well into the future.
My next task is to wire it up fully into the Faderfox PC12 (Dreamsynth has a LOT of knobs, so it deserves the Faderfox treatment) and perhaps create some templates in Bitwig. Well, there goes the weekend!

Best soft synth?
Boy did they give this one the right name!
Whenever Cherry Audio brings something out, well... You just have to get it right?
You know it is going to sound fantastic, and you know it will have a stupidly low price. That is a pretty killer combination. So when Cherry Audio has a new synth, it is always an event. They always knock the ball out of the park, this time they knocked me out with it.
There are three main factors here.
First, the price. Cherry Audio never fleece their customers, and I would expect this makes more business sense in the long run than those that do. Really, at this price, you could just pick it up on a whim. What you get for that price is literally mind-boggling. Just looking at the vast catalogue of presets alone will demonstrate this. Any other company would have put out a fraction of these, and then charged you for further preset banks. Not the guys at Cherry Audio, you get all the packs they could easily have sold separately in one bundle, and all of them totally useable, no fluff here. It will take me weeks to get trough these. Out of all of their synths, this has to represent the best value yet, and compared to the competition... Well there is none.
Second, the quality of sound. Cherry Audio never deliver anything other than the absolute best sound quality. I may be wrong here, as all of their synths sound great, but this synth may have the best sound to my engorged ears. It's room shaking stuff.
Thirdly, and this is what get me going the most. This is the most elegant design I have seen in a synth, period. There is some real thought that went into the design here. At first it looks stupidly complex, as everything is crammed into a single screen. Yet, fifteen minutes later, I not only understood what everything did and how it was all connected together, but I had made my first patch, and a damn good one too! Even the synth newbie will figure this out in no time, it is so clear and intuitive.
In a way, you can use this as a sort of preset generator. For example, you can load up any of the presets, mess around a bit and end up with something that sounds nothing like the original. Or, start from scratch, it is so hard to create something that does not sound great. All of this intuitive design does not come at any cost. This is a deep synth, one where you have total control over the sound design and the routing. This review is too long as it is, so go check out the great reviews and walkthroughs that are already popping up all over the place on Youtube. It will not take long to get a sense of the sheer power and flexibility of this beast.
Great company, great respect for their customers, goaddam great synth.

Simply amazing
I admit I had some hesitations before buying Dreamsynth: Allreading having quite a lot of them Cherry Audio instruments ( if not merely all!!) made me think: I barely have time for them all, how good getting yet another:
Demo-ing made the decision: Dream-sounds, dream-synth and dreampresets, dream-sound-design possibilities, too. Now lets stop reviewing, let's go dream-playing!

Fabulous . . . much more than I hoped for
In '80s lingo, fabulous! Just installed DS a few days ago. What is most encouraging is the extreme range of control variables, it could take endless months to go through all the presets, tweak and rearrange them.
I've been a Voltage Modular user for many months. This is somewhat like VM, without the patch cords. The range of potential soundscapes, composite rhythms and so on are nearly infinite. For $40, it's a ridiculously good deal.

Absolute Quatity
I absolutely love the UI, the sounds and the fact this is a stand-alone instrument.
The sounds are gorgeous, and this instrument has lots of then right out of the box. Very easy to get lost in their textures.
Love the small icon that lets you save favorites too. Makes returning to sounds an easy find.
Al in all, This is value for money. Great plugin/instrument.

Doesn't work at all with Acid Music Studio.
The VST doesn't show up in Acid 10 at all. I've worked with VSTs for years and I've noticed that a lot of paid-for VSTs don't work for whatever reason. This one was a massive letdown as it was suggested to me by a friend. I've contacted the support department for a refund.
